 In this weeks episode I am  going to spend some time talking about scaling in workouts. When most people think about the scale, as it relates to fitness, their mind automatically goes to the negative.  Because everyone hates the scale, correct??? Well this is a different kind of scale. 

  

   I am  going to talk about how to train appropriately for your fitness level. By scaling the weight you use in a workout, or even the actual move. Currently , this is a huge roadblock in emergency services fitness and it’s something that 555 Fitness is attempting to change.  We can scale the movement , or scale the weight you use, to accommodate an entire crew. Being able to work out as a crew, builds the crew dynamic. It creates a stronger bond. The ability to scale each work out, aids in that as well. 

 

     Please leave me a question here about scaling. Whether it be how to scale a movement or how to pick an appropriate weight to use.

Being this is my first blog entry, I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Rob Piparo, but please feel free to call me Pip, mostly everyone does. I'm a Lieutenant currently assigned to Engine Company 1 with the City of New Brunswick Fire Department in New Jersey, exit 9 to be exact. But my roll here with The Battalion.tv doesn't have much to do with Engine Company Ops. I'm their "fitness guy". You know, every firehouse has one, so why shouldn't these guys.

Why me, you may ask?? I happen to run the Firefighter Fitness Not For Profit called 555 Fitness. The whole story of how I got involved and how I ended up running it is sort of crazy and I'm going to leave that for another day. Instead I would rather let you in on my plans for my future broadcasts. 

I can go on and on for weeks about fitness. About whats good and whats bad for firefighters. About how to do certain movements and how not to. The thing that I love the most about firefighter related fitness, is just how simple it really is. I figure I will get the ball rolling that way, by breaking some movements and exercises down. But what I really want, is your questions. They can be about a certain exercise , a certain type of fitness , scaling for all, keeping it fun , motivation to do it or even a how to start type question.  555 is all about everyone, it's run by firefighters, who all started as fans, me included. Some of our best ideas, come from fans and followers.    So let me have them, you ask and if I don't know the answer, I'll find and expert to help me out with it.
