The Ute Mountain in Cortez Colorado is one of the first due areas for Cortez Fire Protection District, on this evening, Assistant Chief Bulke meets with members of the tribe. The sun comes up on Station One; it's Saturday morning training with the volunteers. Amongst others, this class has a high school senior and a Montazuma Sheriff as part of the class. That afternoon we come upon the Chief and several members and volunteers as they stuff envelopes that will go out to all of the citizens in their first-due. They have been working on a Levy tax in order to get some full-time paid staff to keep their city safe. The afternoon is filled with a call of controlled burns that have gone out of control. Theres so many of them that the Chief has to pull a line to help the understaffed crew. Hydration is key in Colorado.
